Start your humbling adventure at the Jonas Daniël Meijerplein monument, the statue of the dockworker (Dokwerker )commemorates the February strike of 1941, a general strike by many (non-Jewish) people of Amsterdam and surrounding cities. Learn a little more about the history of the first Jewish inhabitants who arrived in Amsterdam in the 16th century to settle in the around Jodenbreestraat, the street that has since become the gateway to the Jewish quarter.



Travel back in time, to the fateful period between 1940 and 1945, and discover the harrowing events that occurred in this area. The germans raised a big fence around the area and many bridges remained open permanently, so the inhabitants could only enter and leave the area at certain points. During many raids, the residents were taken away.



Discover the exhibits inside the Jewish Historical Museum and discover a whole world made up of more than 13,000 works of art, ceremonial items and historical artefacts as well as delving into the history, culture and religion of the jews.
